Fool’s Errand<\/em> by Robin Hobb<\/h3>\n

We had 12 people for this book discussion at the home of \t\t\tthe Brothers Siros. Seven people finished the book and the \t\t\tsame seven were already familiar with Hobb’s work. Although \t\t\tthe beginning of a new fantasy trilogy, the book was also \t\t\ta continuation of characters and setting from Hobb’s Farseer \t\t\tTrilogy. Most people had read the previous trilogy but those \t\t\twho hadn’t felt it worked well as a stand alone and didn’t \t\t\tfeel left out of the story. One person liked it so well he \t\t\twent out and bought Hobb’s other books and began recommending \t\t\tthem to others. This new series was deemed lighter in tone \t\t\tthen her previous and so, more enjoyable to return to the characters; \t\t\tone person compared it to meeting old friends. An adventure \t\t\tfantasy novel with intrigue and magic, Fool’s Errand<\/em> was a strong novel that most all enjoyed. One reader described \t\t\thitting a “narration wall” in the book and couldn’t scale it \t\t\tbut another compared it to getting into a theme park ride \t\t\tthat really took off. The discussion ranged from some \t\t\tfeeling the plot was too predictable to speculation over the \t\t\tgender of the Fool — not everyone felt the Fool was female \t\t\twhile others were sure of it. All in all, Fool’s Errand<\/em> is a good start to another Hobb series and many readers were \t\t\talready plotting to obtain the next book. Afterwards we \t\t\thad dinner at the Green Mesquite, where the brisket is \t\t\texcellent.<\/p>\n
