Kinder and gentler than the cyberpunks of 20 years ago, with equal opportunity for women (notwithstanding the upcoming Spicy Slipstream Stories) and no mullets. Witness the Infernokrusher manifesto-in-progress that emerged from June’s Wiscon, where Meghan McCarron proclaimed “We should be drawing names less from wishy-washy words (slip, stream) and more from monster trucks (krusher, inferno).” Now the in-joke is taking on steam — as Benjamin Rosenbaum says, “Demolition is the new deconstruction.” What’s next, slipstream technothrillers?
