Artist Information

Dear Artist/Agent:

I am pleased to announce that I am the Art Show director for the 24th ArmadilloCon. As has always been my policy, I hope to make this show both pleasant and profitable for all the exhibitors and participants. Last year we sold $5,500 in artwork and I hope to beat that amount this year!

Yes, the date has been moved again! But we will be back on Columbus Day weekend soon.

Please send in your space reservation form to my address. Space is limited, so send in your forms as early as possible.

Please include a L(long)SASE with 0.57 (2 oz) postage for your confirmation materials. You will be receiving bid sheets and your artist/print shop control sheets. Please let me know if you need more than 1 control sheet (each has room for 17 pieces). Make as many additional copies of the Bid Sheets as you need. The address for sending mail-in art will be included in these materials.

MAIL-IN ARTWORK All artists shipping to the show must ship prepaid. You should utilize reusable cartons/packing material and must include sufficient postage to cover return shipping and insurance. Please specify in writing which service (UPS, Federal Express, USPS, etc.) you want your art sent back by, and the exact amount of insurance, if any. If no special instructions are given, the art will be returned collect via UPS ground. If you wish shipping fees to be taken from your sales, please let me know ahead of time.

ART SHOW SPACE There is a 15% commission on all artwork sold in the main art show and the auction, and a 10% commission on work sold in the Print Shop. We will have ample space for both 2D and 3D work. Please let me know if you have any special needs (electricity, free-standing artwork, etc.) and I will do everything I can to accommodate you. We will provide hanging hardware (hooks, clips, etc.).

PRINT SHOP Open to exhibiting artists only. 10% commission. The fee will be based on the number of different editions you bring. If you have 50 copies of 1 print, you will be charged for 1. If you bring 1 copy each of 20 different prints (not recommended, by the way), you will be charged for 20. Price breakdown is as follows: 1-5 prints $5; 6-10 prints $10; 11-15 prints $15; 16-20 prints $20. We will have some space for special displays. If you wish to bring a special display for your art, we will try to accommodate you, but there may be space limitations. All such requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Please, no unmatted prints, unless they are individually tubed or protected in some way. Maximum number of individual prints per artist is 20.

COSTS Panel fees are $15 for a 4’ x 4’ panel, with a maximum of 4 panels (4’ x 16’) per artist. Tables are $15 for a 6’ table, $10 for a ˝ table, with a maximum of 2 tables per artist. All funds must be in US dollars drawn upon a US bank. Make checks and money orders payable to “ArmadilloCon 24”. We can also take Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express Cards.

VOLUNTEERING Support your fellow artists! We need volunteers! If you would like to help with set up, tear down, the auction or in any other way, please contact me.

Rules

  1. Art should be of a Fantasy, Horror (Dark Fantasy) or SF theme. Single copies of signed limited-edition prints are allowed for bid sale so long as those same prints are not available elsewhere at the convention or in the print shop. There will be no “resold” artwork allowedall work must be the property of the artist or agent exhibiting at the show.
  2. ArmadilloCon reserves the right to refuse the exhibition of any piece for any reason. Works that are judged to be libelous, plagiaristic, obscene, or detrimental to the value of trademarked characters will not be permitted. Likewise, no artwork from commercial patterns, kits or molds is permitted. If you have any questions, please contact me. If problems arise, you may be requested to not show a particular piece.
  3. All two-dimensional artwork must be matted, mounted, or framed. When hanging, please allow enough room for bid sheets. Small three-dimensional artwork (such as jewelry) must be in a lockable, closed display case. Small items without a case should be securely fastened to a larger display board or device. ArmadilloCon is not responsible for theft or damage to small pieces displayed without these precautions.
  4. All artwork must be clearly labeled. A bid sheet must be made out for all pieces, whether for sale or not. The piece number must be on the back/bottom of each piece (on stickers which will be provided) as well as the artist’s name and piece title. If you are mailing in your artwork, you may find it convenient to include a hanging diagram. Please allow room for your bid sheets and any other materials (business cards, etc.) you wish to display.
  5. Once entered in the show, no piece may be withdrawn before 4:00 Sunday, nor may the conditions of saleamount of minimum bid, NFS status, Quick sale amount, etc.be changed without the express approval of the Show Director.
  6. The Art Show will be set up late Thursday evening, and may be open for hanging if you plan to arrive early. Art will be accepted Friday, beginning at 9:00 am. A receipt will be issued for all art accepted. Artwork may not be reclaimed without this receipt and identification. If you cannot reclaim your art yourself please make prior arrangements with the Show Director.
  7. All pieces that receive 8 or more bids will go to Auction. The Director reserves the right to cancel the auction altogether if fewer than 5 pieces collect the required number of bids. Price your artwork accordingly. We have not had an auction for 2 years.
  8. There will be a charge of 15% sales commission on all pieces sold in the main art show and auction. There will be a charge of 10% sales commission on all sales in the Print Shop. Please allow for this when calculating your Minimum Bid and Quick Sale Prices. Minimum Bid is the least price you will accept for the sale of your art. The Quick Sale Price (if you elect to have one) should be a higher price that will enable the piece to be sold without going to auction. There is no extra charge for NFS pieces, other than panel and mail-in fees.
  9. Photography will not be allowed within the art show without the express permission of the Show Director. Please do not give anyone permission to take photos of your pieces in the art show. Press photographers may be allowed to take wide-angle shots of the room, or photograph a particular artist's panels with the artist present, but only with permission from the show director.

Print Shop

All prints must be clearly labeled with the artist’s name, the title, and the print shop price. We encourage shrink-wrapping for the print shop copies to protect against damage from handling.

Both matted and unmatted copies are allowed in the print shop, but unmatted copies must be either packaged in plastic with cardboard backing or rolled into tubes with one matted copy for display. No loose unmatted prints will be allowed in the Print Shop.

The maximum number of different prints per artist is 20.

The print shop will take a 10% commission on all sales.

General Information

All pieces are sold without any reproduction rights. We will provide a list of pieces sold with the names and addresses of the purchasers if you should wish to negotiate these rights.

Room setup will be Thursday evening and we will be open to artists Friday morning.

Be prepared for the Art Show staff to handle your sold artwork. Please provide packing materials for small 3D objects.

You do not have to be a member of ArmadilloCon 24 to exhibit in the Art Show. However, once the convention begins, everyone must have a convention badge in order to gain access to the show. If you or your agent is attending, please plan to pick up all artwork between the hours of 12:00 and 3:00 pm Sunday.
